The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) ended the automatic extension of employment authorization documents (EAD) on October 30, 2025. The DHS will now conduct a “proper screening and vetting” for all EAD extension cases. When requesting an extension, it is recommended that a person files 180 days before their EADs expire; delay in this filing can affect whether an extension is granted or not.
