Ms. T became our client through a pro bono program. When we took on the case, she and her son were both in an expedited removal process. We represented them in the master calendar and individual calendar hearings, gathering documents from multiple parties such as social workers, physicians, church members, and family and friends. We prepared them for potential questions from DHS and prepared their witnesses as well. After months of efforts, we were able to get her asylum case approved. Now, Ms. T will have protected legal status in the U.S., and her son will be able to adjust his status too. Additionally, we assisted her in obtaining work authorization and social security numbers.
